the buildings were gray
black shutters
white trim
four to a side
neatly stacked
another
after another
another
blinded windows
clean porches and patios
a few chairs square with the railing
no more
until 21-D
fuchsia lime canary pots
filled overflowing with
tulips and daisies and sunflowers
and geraniums and petunias and
bluebells and pansies and lilies
gaudy brilliant
attracting butterflies and hummingbirds
and the ire of restrained neighbors
the manager was very apologetic
zipping us passed in a speedy little golf cart
no need we said
we moved in the next week
our tiger lilies are blooming
