Bibliotheca Alexandrina is seeking submissions for Of Sun and Earth and Eternity: A Devotional in Honor of Dragon and Serpent Deities. Submissions will open 1 May 2022 and close 31 August 2022. This anthology will be edited by Christopher Hubbard.
The editor is interested in poetry, academic essays, personal essays, prose, rituals, hymns, and plays on dragon or serpent deities such as Tiamat, Leviathan, Quetzalcoatl, Ophion, Typhon, Jormungand, Apep/Apophis, and Kukulkan – but your submissions certainly do not need to be limited to these options.
The preferred style is MLA. For any quotes, please include a marker of where to find the quote can be found and in what source (i.e. [Author of source’s name] followed by a page number). Any sources used should be cited; preference toward in-text citations and a works cited page.
Your work can address but is certainly not limited to:
- Historical worship of a particular deity or serpentine deities or dragon deities in general
- Influences on modern-day worship or what modern-day worship of a particular deity might look like
- Influences on contemporary culture and/or media — is there a novel or show that involves a relevant deity, for instance?
- Esoteric meaning and symbolism of dragons or serpents and how this plays a role in polytheistic religion or practice
- Mythology, ancient art, or ancient literature involving dragons or serpents

Multiple submissions by the same author are acceptable, and all contributors will retain original copyright to their work. Previously published material is also acceptable, provided the author retains the original copyright. All contributors must complete a permission to publish form prior to publication or their work will not be included in the anthology.
Absolutely NO plagiarism. Any work that has been plagiarized will be excluded from the finished anthology. All work must be the original work of the author or include proper citations where necessary; the preferred citation styles for this anthology are MLA or APA. Please do not use auto-generated footnotes, if at all possible. The editor reserves the right to make minor changes to formatting, spelling, and grammar, if necessary. The editor also reserves the right to request modifications of submissions or to reject submissions as necessary.
Artwork must be at least 300dpi. Send all submissions in the body of the email or as .doc, .docx, .rtf, or .jpg attachments.

All contributors will be able to purchase up to three (3) copies at cost, and will receive a .pdf of the final manuscript for their personal use. No monetary compensation will be provided. Proceeds from all sales will be divided between charitable donations in honor of the Deities and production costs for future publications from Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
